View Full Version : Web Disk not working on Mac

I downloaded the Mac Webdisk client but when I run it here's what happens:

After clicking on the "Run" button, I get a dialog box titled 'Verify Certificate' with the message:

"The certificate for this WebDAV server is invalid. You might be connecting to a WebDAV server that is pretending to be "x.com" which could put your confidential information at risk. Would you like to connect to the WebDAV server anyway?"

When I click on the Show Certificate button the host is correct (i.e. it's my account at bluehost: 'boxnnn.bluehost.com' and even though I have clicked on "Always Trust" I still get the above warning.

Until I went into Keychain Access and edited "Always Trust" into the certificate, I couldn't even connect to the Web Disk. Now that I've done that i can connect, (i.e. the folder named 'mydomain.com' appears in Finder), but its contents never do - just the spinning beach ball and shortly thereafter a message box saying "Server connection interrupted: mydomain.com" with a "Disconnect" button. And then some time later I'll get another message saying "Apple event timed out" and then the Web Disk App closes.

Before this happens Pathfinder will even show the disk capacity - 2047.9 Gb!!!!! (popping eyeballs) but the closest I'v got to any of that is seeing the names of the folders in the domain root.

Has anybody out there got their WebDisk working on a Mac? What did you do different to what I did?

Any help appreciated.

If this disk-thing you're working with requires WebDav, I think you are going to be out of luck. Bluehost had WebDav disabled a few months ago...when I tried running something Mac, that needed it.

WebDav opens some security risks that bluehost wants to avoid.
Check tech support knowledgebase.

I'm able to connect using WebDav with no problems. If you're not worried about security (using SSL), you can also login just using the Finder's "Connect to Server".

Just enter: http://www.yourdomain.com:2077

When prompted, enter your username and password and viola.

I've been able to connect on 3 different Mac's (Powerbook G4, PowerMac G4 and MacPro).

Yes, WebDav does work from Finder's Go menu, but it has to be the most insecure connection one can make to cPanel. I'm surprised this is even possible.

Dude/ Dudette (not sure). You saved me!
I was SOOOO CLOSE. I had a feeling when i brought up my site:2077 in the browser that it was working, and in true webdav style with hyperlinks (like subversion). But I wasn't sure what protocol to use when connecting from the Finder menu, so I guess it kept trying afp:// in vain. As soon as I specified http://www.domain.com:2077 it worked! and there's my mounted hyperdrive.
Lovin' it!

There is absolutely no documentation on how to do this, and I guess I understand why (much like SSH, you can give some folks just enough rope to hang themselves).

Thanks again.
