I keep getting CPU limit has reached. I'd like to know what is the maximum CPU limit in a Bluehost shared account?

Apparently Bluehost and certainly many hosting services out there decided to fool users by employing the scheme of unlimited (300GBs) space, unlimited add-on domains, unlimited (3000 GBs) transfer, which doesn't make sense if you have bottle-neck CPU limit, which doesn't even mention anywhere.

I want to know what is it?

Because I have a private semi-php site with practically no users, but keep on getting CPU limit exceeded.

I would like to know more about this, too. I can't risk my site constantly having mini-blackouts because of a ridiculous and arbitrary CPU restriction that has very little to do with customer needs, as is apparently the case. I dont have a lot of visitors but from what I'm seeing, to get the CPU timeouts that's not strictly necessary.

A bargain is only a bargain if the product is worth using. So far, despite the fact that BlueHost has a lot of great reviews, I've already had to contact customer service no less than three times in 36 hours - I just signed up yesterday - to try to get really basic issues that should not have happened resolved. I had intended to move my other two domains over here to join the new one I registered yesterday, but between the way things have been going and reading these forums, I am beginning to feel like it would be best to just stick with my current host even though they dont offer me as much and cost a lot more.

This really disappoints me. Shame on BlueHost. I hope it gets better than this. I had such high hopes that my first post would be something a lot more positive. :(

Had you actually searched the forum before posting a question that has been asked many times before you would have found http://www.bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?t=9677&highlight=limit which has a detailed explanation of exactly how the CPU limit is applied together with links to the pages on Bluehost where the information was obtained. It isn't something that is hidden away.

If you are getting constant CPU exceeded messages then the cause is most likely that you are using a poorly written script on your site and have more people using your site than the script was reasonably designed to handle. These badly written but free scripts are fine for personal sites that only get a handful of visitors a week but are not appropriate for use on high traffic sites.

If you do not have the technical knowledge to identify and fix the bad code yourself then the obvious alternative is to find a replacement script that performs a similar function to your existing script and which has been properly written to handle high traffic loads.

If you are already using such a script or still get CPU exceeded after upgrading to such a script then the traffic volume and nature of your site is one such that it has outgrown shared hosting and ought to be moved to its own dedicated server where it is not competing for CPU share with hundreds of other web sites.

the limit is 20%.
when you hit the cpu limit, you will have the errorlog.
refering to it will tell which php is causing the over usage.
debugging it will be the best solution.
