google map keys and rails apps

I am trying to set up a google map on my website. I developed the application on my local machine and it worked fine, the key that I made was for my localhost. So then once I felt that the app was working fine I made another key for my site, but when I go onto the page with the map it gives me an invalid key error (the key was made for my domain). I also tried making a key for the specific controller and action url, and that still didn't work. Has anyone had this problem before, is this even a rails problem (I am unclear about this cause the google map api is just javascript) or bluehost problem?
