Default Getting rid of the Bluehost icon logo in address bar

How do i make my bluehost websites so they don't have the tiny bluehost logo in the address bar? They never used to be like that until this year, and its annoying because even after i delete the file from the server, it just reappears automatically. It tends to make my sites look less professional. Anyone else annoyed by this problem, who can offer a solution?
    Thank you.

You could make your own fav.ico, and upload that to your site, with the code to include it on all your pages.

I agree though. Thats something that really irritates me, with this generally, great host.

There's a file called favicon.ico under your public_html. Download it locally and edit using a graphic editing program of your choice. I haven't been able to get around to tweaking mine but this should work. Save it and upload it under the same file name.

You can open the favicon.ico file and erase all the info, then save it as an empty file. As long as the file itself stays on the server, it won't be replaced. You can then create your own favicon, give it the same name and overwrite the existing file.

I agree the automatic favicon is a very annoying feature, and I don't know what purpose it serves.

It serves the purpose of advertising in a low impact way that most people would not notice. It's a gentle way of "scent marking" web sites that have not supplied their own favicon file. Actually, I think it is quite clever of BlueHost to exploit that.

That being said, if there isn't one already, there should be a way to turn off automatic regen of the file in the control panel, just in case someone wants the default browser icon to appear instead.

There reason why they have it, because it was more or less added to clean up the apache error logs, which would return tons and tons of errors when apache couldn't load user favicon.ico files.

Ahhhh ... an equally good reason. I see those errors in my stats (from other hosted sites).

    heh

It's the only reason I created my own. I was tired of seeing it in my previous hosts as a 404.
