    Default E-mail hosting

Hello, I have a company set up with bluehost and a new idea I am working on is a basic e-mail hosting plan. If it works out I plan to expand this idea if bluehost can accept.

I will basically set up another domain mymail.com (I know its probably taken, it's just an example) and then have users sign up for a fee each year to have an x amount of hosting space, x amount of bandwidth etc at that domain. E.g

    john@mymail.com / 1 Gig e-mail box space / pop3 / spam protection etc

    My questions are as follows:

    1. Am I going the right way about it? If I set up a new domain e.g mymail.com and point it to my main bluehost account domain, can I set e-mail boxes for mymail.com from my main account?

    2. What software would I use to sign up users for an e-mail address and possibly let them sign in via the webpage as well as via their e-mail client?

    3. If I set up each box, could I restrict / monitor how much bandwidth a user has each month.

Hope someone can help as I'm new to this field, but I really want to make it work.

I don't think it will work. There is a limit of 50 outgoing emails per hour. Support can raise these limits but It's hard to say if they'll accept this since having a services like this could end up being used for spam. No one takes spam lightly if the ip gets blacklisted then the whole box can suffer.

IMO, if you don't have a good deal of knowledge about these things then you shouldn't pursue it just yet.

Ok thanks a lot, I didn't think of it with the 50 e-mail limit.

Oh well, back to the drawing board

Default 50 outgoing emails per hour

Fist of all, where does it say that we are limited to 50 outgoing emails per hour ?

Second: Bluehost allows the allocation of of up to 2500 email boxes on their plan. I know that 2500 is way to high but if I was to give out say 30 email addresses on my domain name to family member, friends or acquaintances this 50 outgoing emails per hour limit would be reached in no time. What would be the point of allowing a large number of email boxes if people cannot use them.

It just does not make sense to me or I must be missing something. Am I ?

If each person given an email box was allowed a maximum of 50 outgoing email per hour, then this would make more sense. I realize that Spam is a very serious issue that must be dealt with and should not be taken lightly.

Could anyone including moderators shed some light on this. I joined Bluehost on June 1st with the intention of giving a mail address to family members, friends and/or acquaintances. I need clarification on this before I assign these maiboxes.

Thanks to those who care to help.

search the forums, you'll find your answers. It would be very rare to hit this limit unless you have a emailing list or something similar. For legitimate uses they will raise it. Just call support.

That's true. It's a competitive market out there. Email accounts costs no money so anyone can raise it to a ridiculous number. On the other hand the cost of keeping spam at bay is very high. Spam being sent out from our boxes could prevent emails from being received entirely on the other end. AOL has done this and they cover a lot of addresses out there.

Call support about your situation. I don't think there would be problems. Just be careful that you don't give out accounts to spammers.

Bluehost may allow it if you add a dedicated IP address to your account so if it does get blacklisted the whole box will not suffer.

Personally I feel that the 50 mails per domain limit is way too too too low.
In our business, email is our main mode of business comunication.
We have more than 10 staffs and every morning each staff will receive at least 10 emails such as sales enquiries and technical support or management announcements, etc... Very often, we tend to CC each other to keep each other informed of ongoing issues ... and with such circumstances, the limit is already burst! and mails get delayed and so on...

We chose Bluehost becos the 2500 emails account can enable our organization to grow in time. However, we do not know about the limit when we signed up.

Please raise the limit as such email limits will not satisfy and support a growing, large organization.

If you call customer service you can have the limit increased.
