Default Is shell access needed to run cronjobs?

A chat tech. told me that i needed ssh activated to get permission to setup cronjobs. Is that true? because i was able to setup a cron job, it just produced some errors, which i though were caused by a bug in the script.

There is an option within cPanel for creating cron jobs directly without needing ssh. I have several cron jobs defined and running and have never requested ssh access.

Thanks. Now that i know that, i see that the "permission denied' error msg is NOT form not having ssh.(as the techie suggested), but from some other error i need to find.
