can't send PDF files

when I email PDFs to myself, I get this error:

This message has been rejected because it has
a potentially executable attachment "bla bla
This form of attachment has been used by
recent viruses or other malware.
If you meant to send this file then please
package it up as a zip file and resend it.

Repackaging as zip doesn't help.

What to do?

This sounds like something your email client program is doing - it's definitely not the BH mail servers that are filtering those attachments (just tested with my own email account). What application are you using?

I sent the message using webmail and downloaded it with Outlook Express.

Sounds like OE is being overly-cautious. In OE, choose Tools, Options, the Security tab, and uncheck the box labeled "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."

it's not the mail client - it's Bluehost.

If the message was blocked by OE, it tells you. Unchecking that option made no difference.

I am getting an error emailed back to me (checked in webmail, so even before OE downloads it):

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its

Works for me, too. Sent myself a message with a PDF attachment from Horde, received it in Outlook, no problem.

I use pdfs all the time with my site and haven't had any trouble with their being blocked when they are attached to emails.

Do you have spam filtering turned on for your mail processing on the server (eg. spamassassin). Maybe the settings there are set incorrectly.

Yes, I have spamassasin on, but the only setting is: required_score = 5

I remember this problem occurred once before - it fixed itself. I'll contact BlueHost for assistance.
