Yeah, I've lost a lot of data. My site is displaying news from the 22nd of February. Anything I added or changed since then is gone, and I still can't access my FTP. It says my login authentication is failing. Is anyone else having this problem?
It's down again. Approx 28 hours downtime. Harmful amounts of data loss.
I've sent a ticket asking for this to be escalated to someone high up, but that ticket has mysteriously disappeared, so I've emailed the CEO.

Looks like that "Concrete" had some crap in it, cos it hasn't set.3 - Proactive administration vs reactive administration - Sometimes we find ourselves in the reactive mode. Fix it when their is a problem. This isn’t right. We have set concrete plans in place that will make it so that each time a server goes down we have the information to know exactly what caused it and how to fix it so next time the same thing doesn’t happen. Many large hosts get caught up in the “reset the server” mode, and don’t really fix the problem for the long term. We will strive to fix it for the long term.

The past 24 hours has certainly been a roller-coaster ride of uncertainty, each hour leading to an expectant resolution which inevitably descended into disappointment. Whatever this server issue at Box 329 is all about, it's certainly a WHOPPER!!!![]()
About ten minutes ago, my site was visible for a short time and is now again dissolved into darkness. Maybe I'm desiring too much, regarding the probable complexity of this particular server issue, but I believe that Blue Host should (at least) keep their customers informed on a more personal level (email updates, etc.) at critical times like this...if not out of necessity, then out of courtesy.![]()
How can they predict and avoid some ignorant user installing some crap on their account that manages to bypass all their built in security and crash the server along with all the other accounts on it. All they can do is to keep all the software running the server as up to date as possible in the hope that the upgrades plug any newly discovered security holes before someone installs something that exploits it (note that I am giving such account holders the benefit of the doubt here in suggesting that it is ignorance rather than malice that leads them to install such scripts). Just identifying which account is responsible in such a case may take a significant time particularly if the script constantly crashes the server as soon as it is started up. If it took them an hour or two to identify that this was the problem and they then disabled all the accounts and restarted the accounts one at a time in order to find which one is causing the problem then that step could easily take a further six hours resulting in perhaps an 8 or 9 hour outage for at least some of the accounts. The only really effective way to protect your account against this situation is to get either a virtual server or dedicated hosting where yours is the only account on the server.
i lost a lot of dynamic content till now ... i saw the most recent update they made is for a week ago .. dammit ..![]()
I'm glad some of us are seeing sites. Maybe there is finally light at the end of the tunnel!
Has anyone been able to use cPanel? The only thing I can do is ssh in. But all the permissions are set to root, so there's not much I can do. I can navigate to a few folders, but they seem empty. No web pages, no ftp, no email, no cPanel...![]()
I got excited when the server went green again.
You should always make sure you take your own backups of dynamic data at whatever frequency you need. That way when something like this happens you can restore your own latest backup so as to get your site back to as recent as possible.
