If you have plugins installed or have changed the theme then you would need to include the wp-content folder in the backup and restore steps.

This doesn't address the concern about the table names in the DB. I did a backup of my DB that fantastico's Wordpress installation setup and started renaming all the tables to remove the "wp_" prefix.

However, I then noticed that most of the tables for the plugins also have a "wp_" prefix too. Is this (a) a universal configuration somewhere or (b) just generic convention that WP plugins follow?

If (a) then have to make sure I make the change otherwise all the plugins will break when I restore. If it's (b) then I should be OK.

Go to your control panel and in the "databases" section, click on "phpMyAdmin".

From there, you can select the Wordpress database and choose to "Export" your tables. Here is a great tutorial: http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/backup/

Why are you trying to make things more difficult for yourself by renaming the wordpress tables at the same time as the other changes. Just leave the tables with the same name before and after the change from Fantastico to Simple Scripts.

If you want to change the table names then do that completely separately after you finish everything else.

Sorry, I think I was unclear in my earlier message. When you choose to install Wordpress through SimpleScripts, it sets up the tables without any "wp_" prefix in the table names, whereas Fantastico's WP installation does.

So in my Fantastico WP installation, I have tables like "wp_users" and "wp_links" whereas SimpleScripts installation will make the same tables except they are named "users" and "links".

So the backup and restore of the DB Isn't as simple as you describe... but maybe I'm missing something?

If you use the export and import options in phpMyAdmin to do the backup and restore then you end up with a text file as the backup with just a whole series of SQL commands in it for recreating and loading the tables. You could just edit that file to remove the wp_ from the table names.

Alternatively you could edit the config file for your installation to change the prefix to 'wp_' so that it looks for tables with the prefix.

Hi guys, I successfully migrated my Fantastico WP install to SimpleScripts. It's essentially like felgall said.. with additional steps. I described my experience step by step in a post, for those of us that need a little more directions. You can check it out here:

    I hope it helps!

Default Migrating from Fantastico to SS

So, I'm doing good to understand the little that I do about all of this fabulous website creation stuff and I have joomla and a running shopping cart (zencart) that I would like to migrate to simple scripts. I've also installed some mods into joomla and made extensive changes to both including an update to zencart that was done some other way than through fantastico so fantastico isn't even recognizing that it has been updated.

Perhaps I should find someone that I could pay to help me? I had someone help me get my site set up but then she started getting kind of wishy washy and I'm not sure I trust her. She was doing fine up to the point that there was a small difficulty and then she disappeared only to email me a few months later and ask if I wanted to pay her to do some more work.

Anyone have any extremely simple steps for me or a recommendation for someone that could do this migration at a reasonable price?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
