It's just an organization that offers SSL certificates, so an email site that uses encryption for the userID and password might have an SSL cert from Geotrust.

A security certificate attached to a web page ensures that the details filled out in any form on that page are encrypted before being sent to the server. The server then decrypts it to process it so any processing on the server and beyond requires other security measures.
