    Default Stats-gathering change?

    Hi all,

Is there some change in the way visitors are counted with Awstats? I've had a sudden, sharp drop in my "number of visits" stat for my Wordpress blog, after a very stable average for a long time.

Has anyone else had the same issue?

    Thanks, Malcolm

I'm seeing lower counts for the beginning of July, but my Google Analytics for the same part of my site are showing the same trend, so maybe it's just a "summer vacation" effect.

I noticed that my stats were cut by nearly 75% yesterday through Awstats but my Google Analytics said otherwise. Maybe it was a blip in the system?

My stats seems more true to form today.

I am inclined to think there is a problem going on. The last few days I have seen a hideously sharp drop in my stats. I have never seen traffic this low since I started up. Yesterday it was a sharp drop but today it says only 6 people have been there. The problem is that I have had more people then that on my forum today so I know for a fact that it is not right.

weblizer (sp?) has many more visits to the site then that in what it logged for only part of the day. I hit the update button on Awstats before I looked at numbers so it should have been current but it's still not.

My statistics for Friday (07/11) and Saturday (07/12) were zero. Something must have happened but hopefully it has been corrected. At least Google Analytics still shows that there was activity.

Yes, my stats are obviously out of whack, and I had zero visits listed for the weekend (I would usually have at least 300/day). How can we find out what's going on?

Try asking BH. We're just other users, so no one here knows what's going on.

You might want to use Google Analytics instead of relying on awstats, in any case.

This was the response we got for this problem:

Unfortunately if there is a load on the servers at the time the stats try to run could be the issue why there are some days showing 0. What I would suggest is log into the cpanel and click on raw access log and then mark the first option to make a copy of the stats to your home directory then you can download and view them on your computer.

Unfortunately I got a different response. BH does not seem to think it is a problem on their end. I received responses of how to manually update (on click) Awstats which I already knew. Then their next response was that Awstats does not count everything then they gave me a Google link to Awstats vs Webalizer.

I have Google Analytics on my site, and Awstats always counted more visitors then Google. Now Awstats is less then half the Google Analytics stats. How else can I ask them to look into this problem?

Update: Well this "solution" given by them didn't help at all. Still having the same issue and the raw logs don't even download. God forbid they actually fix the issue. I understand growing pains but random outages coupled with this stat issue make me wonder why I should even stay.
