Angry How to customize awstats the "new way"?

    Hello everyone,

I've been having the same problem that many of you have had with awstats showing zero stats thoughout July and August. I've contacted BH support, and they told me that my permissions were changed on the awstats conf file and that was preventing them from updating the stats ( I had made it read only). When I changed the permissions back to normal, my stats started re-appearing.

I already knew about the permissions change. When I setup awstats two years ago, I made the stats read-only because BH's auto updates were always wiping out my custom config file. I had added manual updates and other custom stats to the config file and changed the permissions to prevent them from over-writing my custom config. This has worked without a hitch for two years.

Now, I'm being told by BH that their implementation of awstats has changed. Supposedly, I can no longer have a customized config file. I have to put any customizations in the "custom.txt" file that found in the tmp/awstats folder. They offered no help on how to do this.

Can anyone fill me in on how to do this? That would be great!

    Hi Viken,

I summarized the changes and procedure at http://www.bluehostforum.com/showthr...t=13827&page=3 . Take a look, it is pretty straight forward.

Thanks for the tip! I searched the forums but somehow, I missed that thread. I have a follow-up question, though: What if I have more than one awstats config file? I have a subdomain in my account too, so I have two awstats config files but only one custom.txt file.

    Any tips on that?

All of the changes are centralized now, which makes it easier to manage (IMHO). Any change that you make to the custom.txt file will effect the configuration for all of your domains that have AWStats enabled.
