Thread: Friday night downtime

  1. #1

    Default Friday night downtime

Did anyone else notice everything was down tonight? Even bluehost.com?

On the plus side, when I called I was told the expected downtime was to be 60 minutes. Sites were back up in about 10.

Didn't expect bluehost.com to be down in addition to everything else.

Did someone trip over a plug?

My sites on BlueHost haven't had any downtime at all recently - certainly not today since I have been doing uploads fairly constantly over the last 10 hours with no interruptions. Probably just one or two of the 1000+ servers were affected.

I haven't run into that problem at all, so you might want to do some tracert's when you can't access the forums - I suspect the problem is not on the BH end, but somewhere in between, perhaps even very close to home!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Comcast..

I couldn't access anything hosted on Bluehost (my sites, this forum, etc) but when I was finally able to get back in I checked my latest vistor stats and saw that other IPs were returning 200s during the time-frame.

It was about 12:30-12:45 AM EST. I'm on Comcast in the Southeast [and there have been these types of problems before with large chunks of the internet being disconnected]
I'd say the 21st century is a good time to be a writer.

Sometimes my BH server doesn't load and I refresh my browser and voila. Down here in Florida Brighthouse isn't worth a d**m.

YES IT WAS DOWN. And it appears that it was the Name servers, because i was connected thru FTP and no problems, also thru puTTy. They didnt disconnect but my teamspeak got disconnected and pages wouldnt load.

I use opendns, and this error came up when i tried accesing three differnet sites that are on different accounts on different boxes at bluehost.

I was told by Tech. Support it was them, and expect 60 minutes of downtime. Luckily, it did not last that long.

Multiple issues yesterday. One of the GigE links that sends data through globla crossing was having data issues. After multiple partial outages (couple hundred megabit at a time), they finally tracked a bad card in one of their edge routers in palo alto.

Add to that lat last night we had a maintenance to add a card to one of our routers (which is a hot swap card that should have caused no downtime) and it crashed the router and forced a full reboot. That caused some network issues of it's own.

Needless to say, these have all been taken care of, but made for a ugly day.
