    Default Databases lost on hardware upgrade-Make your own backups!

    If your server is scheduled to have a hardware upgrade, be sure to make a backup of your site contents and any databases you have installed. After an upgrade last night, the html server and mysql servers are finally back on line and stable, but all my databases have disappeared. Tech support first told me that bluehost did not make database backups and it was up to me to recreate the databases. Now they're said that they might in fact have a backup and will restore it. Meanwhile my client is upset because their dealer locator hasn't been working all day.

    The moral? Make backups of your site if you hear of any upgrades to be done. Also check each of your server features to be sure that they're working. Tech support doesn't always seem to be aware of what's been out of service.

    I agree. Anytime any type of scheduled maintenance is due, you should always backup.
    Unless you haven't changed your sites content before a scheduled date.

    Make regular backups of anything important whether it's on BH or your own computer

    If only I knew the upgrade was happening...

    I was notified that it was to happen last week - not sure if it did or not, but what went on yesterday was a complete surprise.
    Losing even a bit more than week's worth of data is no fun, it might be closer to 2 or 3 weeks depending on the inegrity of the backups.

    I've got a ticket in and no response yet - I hope they're just busy restoring databases...
    They responded quickly to a performance issue I opened a ticket on yesterday.

    Bluehost performs scheduled maintenance?

    I've been with them for over a year and have yet to receive notification that anything is being updated, upgraded, maintained, etc.

    Not very user friendly.

    I checked with Bluehost live chat yesterday while my website down, they told me it is server upgrade. 1.5 hours of downtime for me

    How much data can you afford to lose? If the updates since you ran your last backup are more than that then you should have already run another backup.

    My sites are mostly static so I only back them up twice a week.

    Just lost a WP database when they did a "Hardware Upgrade" If they had told me that I was in danger of losing my data and that they were moving me to a new box (152-->543) I would have made backups. All of my WP sites except the main account survived.

    ::sigh::
