Hi.
I have 2 domains. Domain A is the principal domain. And Domain B is a parked domain.
I need that the Domain B passes to be the principal domain.
¿How can i do it?
Any particular reason why?
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
You would need to ask support to replace your current account with a new one to do that since the account is attached to the principal domain. Your sites will have down time during the move.
Thanxs felgall.
wysiwyg, the reason is that I dont want that the domain B is joined to the Domain A. I want them separated. I want that the Domain B be the principal one and to get rid of the Domain A. Thanxs too.
I think I need to do that too. Please tell me if I'm wrong. I plan to buy a dedicated IP address and an SSL certificate from Blue Host.
A couple years ago I changed my business name. I parked a domain name for the new business and redirected my main domain to it. Now I want security on the new domain for a shop. I've read that you can only buy certificates from blue host for the main domain correct?
So! I think I need to have my parked domain and main domain switched right? Will that cost me? Will it make a mess? Will there be much down time? Is there a way around it if its a horrible pain?
Then, I'll get a dedicated IP for a yearly fee, buy the certificate for the new domain, which would now be the main domain, and put my store there.
Please help. Am I going about this the right way? I just don't want to have a ramshackle, shady looking store, ya know!
Thanks in advance.
The downtime will be while BlueHost support set you up a new account for your new principal domain and then move all your content from the old account to the new one. Most likely the new account would be on a different server and so there would be several days while the change in DNS info propagates following the move.
@sidd:
Yes, the staff at Bluehost can rename your account. However, if you have this rename done in the near future then it will wipe out your entire site and set it back up as if it were brand new. I highly recommend doing some prep work (making a download and figuring out which scripts you will need to change so that the new username, etc... works).
Bluehost is currently working on a new backend system that will let accounts be renamed without getting completely erased, but there is not an estimated time as to when it will be officially rolled out.
@HennaMuse:
You are going about this the right way. Bluehost will only install SSL certificates to the main domain, and only to the "www" (so you can only have www.yourdomain.com use the SSL certificate) record (I know, this sucks. It's a cpanel thing, don't blame Bluehost). Since SSL certificates are specific to one domain you will want to wait until after you have the account renamed before you order the dedicated IP address and the SSL certificate.
Additionally, felgall is correct. Most of the time when accounts are renamed they are migrated to a new server by the system. This could result in extra downtime as he explained while the new IP address propagates.
Hopefully this helps you out and clears some things up
If I change my main domain name, will I lose my old data and setting? need to pay for it?
somebody say that if I change main domain name, the server will be changed as well and this server will be slower than the original one. Is it true?

BlueHost support do it by deleting your old account and creating a completely new account for you. It will most likely be on a different server but whether that server will be faster or slower than the one you are on depends on what other accounts are on the two servers and how likely it is to be better or worse will depend on how good the server you are currently on is. Most likely you will not notice any significant difference. Support may copy everything across from one account to the other for you (I don't know if they do that when the move between servers is at your request rather than theirs and I don't know if they charge for moving your data). You are best to make sure you have a complete usable backup of everything first in case they don't manage to copy everything for you. Chances are that some settings at least will be lost. Your site will be offline for a period during the move. Overall it will not be much different from moving from one hosting provider to another except that as both accounts are with the same provider and you are only using one of them at a time there shouldn't be any overlap where you are paying for two accounts (but then similarly you can't use that overlap period to keep your site online during the move).
