Default copy e-mails without user aware?

I'm the administrator for the accounts at our office and have been asked to monitor everyone's incoming and outgoing mail for suspicious activity. Is there any way to get copies of everything going through the server without the users being aware?

It needs to be done in such a manner that even if they change their passwords, it won't have an effect and I've searched the control panel and knowledge base and found nothing that will help me.

If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. My boss is quite insistent this be done immediately. Thanks!

    Thumbs up a thought..

if your hosted on BH, this will work, altough the idea behind it may be primitive.

after you have created the pop accounts, create a forward for each account to your (or the person monitoring) email address.

    EXAMPLE:
Your email, as the person monitoring, is monitor@yourdomain.com

M.jane@yourdomain.com is a pop account you set up for an employee.

now set up a forward from M.jane@yourdomain.com to forward to monitor@yourdomain.com

The forward will not stop the email from reaching the user's pop account, it will just forward you a copy.

If you and your boss want to monitor, just setup another forward to his/her email address.

    good luck reading everyone's emails..

    Exclamation incoming!!

this only works for incoming, obviously..

    but its half the battle.

if someone sends out a mail they shouldn't you might catch the reply, and hopefully the reply includes the original email as well.

sorry i couldnt be of more help..

good new is that no matter what the password is, you'll always get a copy of the email!

This just seems to fishy for me.why not just let your IT man monitor this at the office.Or you don't have a server set up.Your email's are hosted on bluehost servers whitch means you could have a free email site set up and you want to read everyones private emails.
to many "what if's" so i'm not going to respond (how to do it)

I'm sorry if it sounds suspicious, but its the truth. We're a small company and I AM the IT person (as well as the web person, the graphics person and the marketing person). I maintain the LAN here and quite frankly, I'm still learning my way around the server so at the moment, its only set up for file sharing and ftp, the mail comes in to the individual computers from BlueHost.

I'm not happy about this situation and I have no desire to spy on my coworkers, but I couldn't figure out how to do this on my own and thought I would ask. If you thought I was lying, you could have simply not answered instead of accusing me of doing something underhanded.

Why dont you install Mdaemon server in your office?

Mdaemon has an option sending all the incomming/outcomming to any specific emaill address.

The fact that your boss wants to spy on his workers without their consent is underhanded. Tell him to do the right thing.

    OK, that's it. Can't resist...a...response.

I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. First, the boss asks me to monitor all email, and internet activity for ALL employees.

Next comes the office memo, "All employees are not allowed to use email and internet for personal use. Surfing the net for non-business related material will not be tolorated, and grounds for dismissal. While emailing clients, do not refer to upper management in a negative way." And so on...

So, after a month or so, there was one user with flagrant violations- The Boss. Playing Text Twist for hours at a time, emailing his girlfriends, ex-wife, kids, etc. And his emails would talk about how "stupid and inept everyone was in the office."

It isn't underhanded. I work for the electric company. Policy is spelled out. The company has the right to monitor all incoming and outgoing email when it involves using company property.
