Default Is wordpress a good platform to create, manage and design a blog?

I am new at blogging and not very tech savvy but eager to learn. I would like to start a blog and heard that you need a domain and hosting services, and I got that part down. Now, the 600 pound gorilla is the creation and managing of my blog. Is worpress a good tool to use? user friendly?

Probably the most widely-used, which tells you something, at any rate. It's free, so why not just hit the Control Panel, SimpleScripts, install it, and start playing!

Wordpress is by far the most popular software available to manage a blog. It's easy to manage and the software is updated often enough to stay ahead of most security issues. There are also several design templates available free to make your site unique to your style.

You do not even have to own your own domain to make use of Wordpress.

Just go to http://wordpress.com/ and you can open an account free of charge and start blogging for free. Millions of people are doing it.

And, as an add-on bonus since you say you are not tech savvy, all upgrades will be taken care of by the wordpress admins.

    Good Luck

It is true that wordpress.com will let you have a free blog with them, however, it will not be something like yourdomain.com ... it will be something like yourdomain.wordpress.com.
Also, you have much less options with wordpress.com. In my opinion, going with your own domain and WordPress is definitely a good thing, however, if you are just getting started with it, setting up a free site at wordpress.com is a great way to familiarize yourself with it.

If you decide to migrate to your own domain at some point, you can always use WordPress's built-in Export feature to make a copy of all the posts you have made at wordpress.com, and then the Import feature to upload them to your own site.

Wordpress is pretty strong out there among users, however, I use Blogger only because that is what I am used to. They both work great and each have their limitations.

However the flexibility and support and growth as well as great plugins are with Wordpress

The biggest limitation of Blogger is that you can't install it on your hosting and it is therefore limited as to what you can do with it.

WordPress has no limitations (apart from those that apply to any web site) since with it installed on your hosting you can customise it however you like.

Just FYI you missed the whole "blogging" fad by about 3 or 4 years.

The young can be so cruel.

I recall reading somewhere a couple of years ago that the average blog has something like 1.00001 readers. In other words, there are a few blogs that have lots of readers, but that the bulk of them are read by exactly one person: the person who writes it.
