    Default Password Protected Directory

I created a website to host pictures to share with family and friends. The site is split into two parts. 1) Public Albums, for general photography and 2) Private Albums for pics of family, kids etc. Each part has "albums" which contain assorted pics. I password protected the private albums directory, which contains several different albums, each having it's own directory. I then went into certain directories and protected them as well to give even more of a restricted access so even with access t the main "Private Albums" one may or may not be able to access certain albums within it. My question is this. If I assign someone a log on and password of jsmith and abc123 to access the "Private Albums" tab, why doesn't it recognize and automatically give them access to each album where that same log on criteria is assigned to? What I have now is a log on box popping up when one clicks on "Private Albums" (GOOD) but then log on boxes pop up for each individual album that is also secured and therefore requiring that same person to log on several more times. Did I do something wrong?

The password protection applied to a subdirectory stands on its own. It doesn't "know" anything about user IDs or passwords in other subdirectories, so the fact that an included sub-subdirectory has the same user ID and password doesn't make any difference. A user has to supply an ID and password for every subdirectory he wants to have access to. It's not like having user accounts in an operating system, where you can login once, and have access to a bunch of different protected areas.
