500 errors are kind of a pain to diagnose - there are a number of possible causes. It's best to have BH Support look at your account to see what might be causing it.
If it's coming randomly, it's REALLY hard to catch... it could be resource limitations on your account or on the server. If at all possible, contact BH Support when it's happening.
500 errors are totally fun! You can check the error logs in the cPanel after visiting the 500 error (I like to reload the page about 5-6 times to find my error) and you should see an entry containing your IP address. That will start you on your path to figuring out where to go next. Good luck!
