    Default Forum question

Newbie here...how would I add a forum similar to this one on my site?

Is there a seperate place to go , or does bluehost have one?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, rvintheusa:

Check out Fantastico through the CPanel and there are two auto-install scripts for discussion boards there, phpBB2 and SMF. Everyone has their opinion on which one is better and you can probably do a search of this forum to get the pros and cons on each.

Of course, this one is run by vBulletin which doesn't appear to be supported by Fantastico, but you can probably install the scripts manually. There's also a few others out on the web and, again, everyone has an opinion on what's better.

I don't know if this helped but I hope so!

Yea this one here is vBulletin but it is not free, you have to pay to get this software. phpBB and SMF are free and can be found in Fantastico from your cPanel and it will install it for you. Most people use phpBB, but vBulletin is also very popular if you want to purchase it. I use phpBB and have no problem with it. It also seems to have more mods that you can add to your board.

go with redsox9s fantasico suggestion.... but use SMF as phpbb is extremely vunerable.

It's only vunerable if you don't know what your doing and don' take the nesscary steps to protect your board. I haven't updated mine in yrs and I haven't had one problem. I also use CTRACKER which is a anti-hack mod for phpBB. It really doesn't matter which one you use, if someone really wants to hack your board, they are going to find a way to do it regardless.

My opinion? SMF. Why? Because it's so much more easy to add mods than phpBB ever was for me. I see more and more sites using SMF as time goes on. It also seems a little more efficient on resources.

Assuming you read the initial post of this thread, rvintheusa said he was a "newbie" so he wouldnt know, s/he may also not know how to upload and install them manually.
