So, I've had a site on Bluehost for over two years. Recently (over the last 6 months actually), performance has become horrible. I have a ticket open on this, but I wanted to try the forums also, because slow page loads are an issue that many people have to deal with, and support so far has not been able to help.

Here's what's happening: A page on my site (http://www.dangeroustactics.com) will load quickly, and then a minute later, the page will take 45 seconds to load. Then it goes back to normal. Then, I'll get a 500 internal server error, then I refresh the page, and it loads just fine again. The performance of the site is all over the place. I regularly get complaints from readers, so this is not an isolated issue.

InternetSupervision recently reported page loads from several different providers were all over 20 seconds. Right that second, I opened a browser, and my browser timed out. I also ran a tracert and got the following results:

Trace complete.

All databases on my account are optimized and repaired. All plugins and themes not in use are gone. I only have a handful of well-known and solid plugins in use. Caching is enabled through W3 Total Cache. My site is not a high traffic site, but even just a handful of traffic seems to be far more that the site can handle. I'll have days with 300-500 visitors, but most days are far less than that.

I've had three programmers look at the site, and they all see no issues with my scripts, but they all admit there is a significant performance issue. So far, everyone has pointed their finger at Bluehost. I'm not in the finger-pointing game. I just want the dang site fixed, and I'm happy to do whatever is necessary on my end.

CPU throttling is all over the place also. It will be at 4000 seconds in a 24 hour period, then it's completely gone. Then it comes back again. Honestly, it doesn't make any sense to me why performance should be so erratic. If the scripting on my site is so horrible that 10-20 simultaneous visitors is all it takes to crash the site, shouldn't the problem be pretty easy to isolate?

Oh, I also think it's worth mentioning that I've loaded the site in Firebug, and PageSpeed consistently gives the site a score of 92-93. I just don't get it!

Any insight is most appreciated.
