Server Load
I haven't been able to get to any of my sites for over an hour. Decided to find out why. Check out the Server Load down near the bottom.
Something needs to be done about this...

That's on the high side, but shouldn't be enough to prevent access to your sites. At worst, it might make them a bit sluggish.
Care to post a link to one or more of your sites? The problem might be elsewhere.
-
Well I can get there now. Imagine that.
This has been going on for the last 3 days. I can get there, then I can't for about an hour and then it is fine for a few hours and then back at it again. It is frustrating when I work on the site all day long 8 - 5 and my income depends on my site being active.
-
Mine has gone from 81% to 84% in two weeks
My sites are running slow to load, but no other major problems. I don't use the ftp so I don't know how that is.
Seems this time of day (3-6 PM)it lags a bit due to people logging on I guess. And, it also could be my ISP, they seem to have doled out more service for BB than they can handle, and after work hours, it really lags.
What does it mean with the server load at 4.69 (4cpus)?
Server Load 4.69 (4 cpus)
Memory Used 34.4 %
Swap Used 0.75 %
Disk sda1 (/) 28 %
Disk sdb1 (/home) 84 %

Playin' in the Mud

I THINK it means that if the Server Load is under the number of CPUs, instructions are carried out immediately. However, if the server load is above the number of CPUs, there is a delay in processing as the server has more instructions than it can deal with immediately. Thus, a backlog is formed.
My old two hosts would flash red in cPanel whenever the server load became higher than the number of CPUs. However, BlueHost appears to have hacked this function to always show green… probably to avoid the inevitable queries that would follow if everyone had a flashing red light 90% of the time.
The box I’m on varies from 3-9 on the server load scale… typically staying around the 6 mark. However, I’m only on a 512kb/s connection (Australia has bad infrastructure when it comes to the Internet) so my experience has been unaffected. :-)

I've seen the serverload as high as 12,xx.
Than the red light flashes, so this function is nog hacked.
I don't know what it means anyway, but I've never seen it below 3.

Well it's good to hear the feature still works. However, it has been altered. As I said, on other hosts the moment the server load raises above the number of CPUs, the light flashes red.
-
Mine is running fine, maybe a tad slow, but its flashing red at 13.99. I keep refreshing and it goes from 8.5 to 13.99. up and down as load changes. It looks like the threshold for the red to blink is 9.

Thats it?!? I wish mine was that "high", on a good day miy serverload stays around 12. I saw it as high as 52 the other day. They need to do something about this.
