    Default Spam with email-forwarders

I have several email forwarders set up on my site for family members in order to allow easy memory of addresses. If they move accounts, I can just update the forwarders.

In the past few days they have complained of several pieces of spam per day even though they've never given out the addresses, and are requesting the removal of that forwarding logic. This of course defeats the purpose of the forwarding.

I have Spam Assassin enabled and the spam filter configured to discard the mail, but I'm not sure that actually affects forwarded mail.

Is there anyway to prevent the spam from being forwarded on from the BlueHost configuration?

    Thanks.

Set up a Google Domain Account. You can have 25 sub-accounts.

The advantage is if you use an email client such as Outlook then Google filters out the email - so you get virtually no spam in your email client.

Also Gmail is more forgiving on email size attachments than Bluehost.

There are previous threads on the subject of using Google Domains. Do a forum search for more info and comments.

Did you (elmaster) ever find a solution to this problem within bluehost? I found that if you set up the forward as an actual email account, SpamAssassin will run on it; you can then set up a forward for that account (see Forwarding Options in the Webmail interface), which will take place after SpamAssassin discards the spam.

I do have one problem with this solution in that the email is retained in the bluehost account as well as forwarded to the desired target address. I tried setting up discard filter (see "Email Filtering" under Webmail interface), but it seems to discard the email before it forwards it.

If anyone has a solution to this problem, I'd love to hear about it.

I'm now using Google Apps, but I did have something working prior to that. I had SpamAssassin set with a required_score of 5 and a rewrite_header subject of ++++++.

Then in the User level filtering for each account, I had:

    Rules:

    Subject does not contain ++++++

    Actions:

    Redirect to email <address>
    Discard message

    Hope that helps.
