CPU limits & how to track?
Hi, I'm a new member and at first bluehost seemed to be perfect for me. Lots of control, disk space and bandwidth but one thing is worrying me.. CPU limits.
I now know that I can't exceed 20% usage on the CPU only because my site was down with that message. What I'm wondering is 20% over how long and is there a way to track it? I'm on box 97 with quad CPU's and whenever I check the CPU usage in the cpanel it's always about 1-4%. Not sure how if it's an average over the day or if it's specific to me since it's so low.
I have 3 domains with various CMS's installed but no traffic yet. I'm still playing with different packages and only 1 is live (the-heartless.net) but there aren't many visitors. Sure, installing/uninstalling these applications will take up cpu minutes but to have it trigger so easily has made me uneasy about the future.
So, again.. How can I track this if it's possible -is it the cpanel and if so, how is it being tracked? The 20% is over what duration? And is anyone else running into this?
Thanks,
-joon

I just received a reply from support. It seems the 20% is not over any specific period of time but the instant it's happening. He pointed me over to the /tmp/cpu_exceeded_logs/ and I found the culprit. The cms I used for the-heartless.net is a mess. It's using e107 which I recommend everyone stay away from.
Just for future reference, if anyone is curious about the same issue, you can check on which processes are running under your account on the bottom link of the "error log" page inside your cpanel. Too bad it doesn't inform on the cpu seconds it's using. But the cpu_exceeded_logs is the first place to check.
