The email account is shown in the screenshot.

For about an hour around 9:00 pm MST on 03/14/06 the lights on exim were green in the control panel and the email notifications were sent fine. Now it is around 11 pm the indicator light show failed on exim and I cannnot send emails notifications from the forum again.

It is your lucky day Rando. I have to out of town for a few days and will be in a very remote area of Idaho with no computer access. We shall resume dealing with the problem when I am back.

I've enabled shell access on your account. Next time you see this happening, log in and try this:

    Code:
    aliencha@alienchaos.com [~]# /usr/bin/sendmail -t
    From: you@your_address.com
    To: you@your_address.com
    Subject: test

    cowss
    aliencha@alienchaos.com [~]#
Use the same email address you're sending from currently as the From and any email address you can check as the To. When I log into your account and do this, I can send mail to myself just fine.

Please see if you can replicate this like that.

For a couple of days the lights were green on exim and everyone was receiving email notifications. Today the lights showed exim failed and no email notifications again.

    Totally unreliable service.

Why is it that I am only having problems on this server? I don't have any problems on the other two servers where I have accounts running the same software. On Boxes 67 and 70 the lights are always green for exim and I haven't had a problem sending email notifications ever. If you can not fix the **** problem, I will be forced to find another hosting company that knows what they are doing.

    Do you mean /user/bin/sendmail -t or /user/sbin/sendmail -t

In any event it did not send an email.

Is it a normal function for any light to show failed on the control panel if everything is working properly?

Warning lights serve a function to let people know something is not working properly, whether it be on a car to show there is a problem or on cpanel to show a service on the server is not working correctly.

You keep claiming that you do not think the problem is wih Exim on box 88. So why do the lights on the cpanel show Exim and Exim-26 as failed on box 88?

When this happens it seems to be because of someone who keeps DOSing us. We added an autobanner script to try to stop him, but apparently it's not aggressive enough.

Believe me, if cpanel allowed us to edit their code (they distribute it in a crappy encrypted format), I'd work on fixing it so it didn't turn those lights on when it wasn't supposed to.

I should be under the 30 day refund policy. I want a refund for the account of alienchaos.com as Bluehost cannot provide me with reliable service as promised.

You can be rest assurred even though I have had little problem with account of kernelpanics.com and no problems with crazypenguin.us when it comes time to renew them it will be with a hosting provider other than Bluehost.

You'll have to contact customer service for that.

Just an update on this, We've decided to cancel the account of the guy who's been the target of the DOS attacks for the last three weeks. He'll be off the server soon, and in the meantime, our much more aggressive DOS banner should also keep this problem from happening further.

Ed. - Please note that he was cancelled due to Terms of Service violations, and not simply because somebody chose to DoS attack him. -alligosh
