    Default Configuring SFTP Client

    Hi,

I've recently joined Bluehost and would like to update mysite via SFTP, but I can't seem to log in with an FTP client. I've done the driver's license thing to activate SSH and I'm logging in with the same username and password that I use for cPanel.

Right now I'm trying out Transmit (for Mac) and I get a "Permission Denied" message when I attempt a connection with the following settings:
    Server: thewysz.com (my domain)
    User Name: (my bluehost username)
    Password: (my bluehost account password)
    Port: 22
    Protocol: SFTP

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to add an FTP account in cPanel?

Thanks in advance for your help! I'm new at this.

I don't think SFTP runs over SSH. Instead, I believe it runs uses SSL. Instead of SFTP you can use SCP (Secure Copy) which does use SSH. Check WinSCP for Windows or Fugu for Mac if you need a client.

Actually I talked to bluehost tech support and first off, SFTP is over SSH and you can get SFTP access does work when you have SSH access. To test I used FileZilla in Windows and used the same info that I used for logging into my FTP, except I changed the port from 21 to 22. I would check to make sure you do in fact have SSH access because it should work if you do. Good luck.

In just the past few days I've been getting this "Permission Denied" error as well funny thing is nothing has changed no updates no new installs and I've been using Transmit 3 since it came out with SFTP. Now I can't login using SFTP it does how ever still let me use FTP. So in the meantime I'm awaiting a resolution to this problem.

Updated: My problem came from clearing out the sys cache that caused that error where I could not use SFTP only on that one program.
