I suspect that someone tweaked the firewall script so that it blocks access to the database from other BlueHost servers. It would make sense generally to not allow scripts on one server to connect to a database on another for security purposes.

I have read that if you want to be able to access a mySQL database from offsite BlueHost needs to add your IP address to a list of those permitted to access the database from the outside.

I would suggest a call to customer support or open a ticket.

I've opened ticket and bluehost added my IPs in "MySQL Whitelisted IPs" but it cannot still connect to mySQL. Anybody can help me.
    Thanks

I've also been having trouble with "Lost connection to MySQL server during query" errors while connecting to a database on bluehost from outside the server, which is causing a lot of data loss. Any info on the problem?

Mine keeps dropping as well and I finally decided to open a ticket with BlueHost about it.
