Default Thinking about getting BlueHost, quick question though

I currently have a free Wordpress Blog and was thinking about switching to Bluehost that way I can put google ads on my site. My question is when I switch over will my current blog url transfer to the blog URL on BLuehost, or do I have to update all of the places were I have typed in my Wordpress blog URL? Thanks

If you have your own domain name already then you just change it to point to the new location when you move your site to different hosting. It is only when you are using a subdomain of your current host that your domain name changes when you move the site.

I don't currently have my own domain, I am using a Wordpress to host a blog (free service). So is there a way to redirect my current Wordpress blog to send visitors who click my current link (currentworldnews.wordpress.com) to my new uRL? Thanks

You can ask the owners of the wordpress.com website but I don't know if they'd be willing to redirect your domain or not. They control their domain name and would have to be the ones to do any redirection to a new url.

    Hope that helps!

Put a link to your new blog at the top of your old one, and then leave your old one operational for a few months. Something like "CurrentWorldNews has moved -- please click here to be transferred to our new location."

There are two types of Wordpress sites -

    1. those hosted by wordpress.com
    2. those where you have the Wordpress software installed on your own hosting

Where you have the first type of Wordpress blog the only way to move your hosting would be to convert over to the second type.

Does your current blog provide a method for taking a backup of what you have on the site? If so then it should be possible to back everything up from there to upload onto a Wordpress blog on your own hosting all in one go. If not then you would have to manually cut and paste any content that you wanted to transfer one piece at a time.

I just contacted Wordpress and the only thing I can do is take my blog and make a post that says I have moved to another location and then make that post my home page! I guess I will just spend a few days contacting those on my blogroll and all my blog submissions on directories to change to my new URL. It sucks because I spent a lot of work increasing traffic on my blog from about 15 to 20 views a day in 11/30/06 to about 300 to 350 a day currently. Oh well, I should get more views (and be able to put adsense which is not allowed on wordpress blogs) on my own domain anyways. Thanks for the help guys!
