Default Google Apps causing email problems

I set up my domain (openleftbox.com) with Google Apps, changed the MX records, etc., and everything seemed to be running well. Now I find out that my Drupal site cannot send email to @openleftbox.com addresses, so that I am not receiving any account requests, user feedback, etc. Email works fine with outside addresses.

My activeCollab site does not send email at all, regardless of the address.

Is anyone else having this problem, and know how to fix it? Right now I'm getting around the Drupal problem by using my GMail address, but it's not ideal, and I don't know what to do about activeCollab.

    Thanks for any help!

I had a similar problem when I switched to google apps. Fixed the problem for my Wordpress and SMF forums by creating users in the cpanel of wordpress@domain.com and smf@domain.com, and set those up in the apps as the email address to create notifications from. When I originally moved to Google apps, I deleted the local email boxes as I figured they wouldn't be needed. Once I created email accounts for these apps (again, on the BH cpanel, *not* at Google apps) everything was fine again.

OK, I see what you mean. I created a local POP account admin@domain.com, and was able to receive the account requests there. However, it seems silly that I now have to check email there, since I the whole point of going to Google Apps was to have Google manage my email. Is this how you're doing it (i.e., using local accounts which you check separately?)

After some more tests, I discovered that, instead of creating a local POP account, I can forward admin@domain.com to my GMail address, which then forwards to my Google Apps account. So now at least I can get my messages, but it's still clumsy and not scalable.

Thanks for your help, let me know if there's something I'm missing.

For my use, Wordpress and SMF are merely delivering notification messages, so there really isn't any email "inbox" to check on at my BH account. Wordpress simply notifies people if a comment has been posted, and same general principle with SMF. If someone chooses to be notified of new posts, my SMF@domain.com notifies them. I'm assuming that if someone were to actually reply to the email it would bounce since I haven't setup that account within Google apps.
I view it as a small inconvenience that is greatly outweighed by the better spam filtering and webmail interfaces Google apps provides me. Google also never seems to be dealing with high loads on their servers that could delay processing of email.

    Default It's an easy fix

If you change to an outside mail server. scripts still think that is is sending to an email address on the server to resolve this you just need to have support change the domain to a remote file then the mail will send properly.

Default You need to have domain settings access

    Hi to everyone!

I have also use Google Apps with our domain STISanPedro.net and our forum which is built with phpBB experience problems with parts that needs to send mail through the sendmail function.

This might be cause by the MX records update that have to be done in order for the emails addressed to the domain to be forwarded to the Google Apps and also for the Google Apps Email service to be activated. The old settings which is pointed to our hosting server now gets pointed to Google Apps server so that's where the problem begins. Our normal scripts that thinks they have a mail server at their disposal find nothing anymore that's why they get problematic.

My solution to this is that, I go to my hostings DNS settings and restore my original DNS/MX settings as if I haven't use Google Apps yet, You don't need to delete the now existing Google Apps setting but rather add your probably deleted old DNS/MX entries that points to your hosted sites and then make its MX priority second to the first google MX entry.

In essence when email arrives to your domain, the usual email is forwarded to Google Apps server, but if the email is from your hosted sites service like forum registration confirmation email, it will be forwarded to the proper service of your webhost, meaning you will get such emails under your Google Apps Account or your newly registered member under their registered email.

Note: I don't maintain email account under my hosting anymore, meaning they are all deleted, all email under my account is created and maintained under my Google Apps hosted service. The only thing I provide is that I own my domain, www.stisanpedro.net and I have requested my webhost to provide me access to DNS Entries in my hosting since I avail a Reseller Plan.. I don't know if regular hosted account which usually operates under Cpanel could do such. You might need to seek support from your webhost to do the DNS/MX Entries update. But since all here have already use Google Apps, I think that will not be a problem to file such request for DNS/MX modification...

    Hope this could help...
