I'm still kind of new to using SMF, but what kind of error are you getting? Does it just say "error, unable to establish database connection due to server being too busy"? Or, maybe an error number? I had something go weird a while back on mine, but the error number pointed me in the right direction and I was able to fix the problem very quickly through the SMF community. Your best bet is to hit their site and find out what you can there, lots of good people there willing to help too.
