Default Gallery install errors with Fantastico

I've done 3 installs with Fantastico lately and I was fiddling with one of the installs earlier today, but all 3 now give me this error including one i just installed without ever using:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 10485760 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /home/MYSITE/public_html/smile/modules/core/classes/GalleryDataCache.class on line 323
anyone know what's up with this?

hmmm, the install suddenly started working again without any intervention on my part.

interestingly enough, i was trying to learn how to play a game using online forums called Mafia . . . i visited this wiki and was getting the same errors i was getting with my Gallery install. this was a site independent of mine. their site finally started working just as my Galleries started working.

i'd venture a guess that they are using bluehost as well.

People are probably tired of me saying this BUT everytime I've used Fantastico I end up getting intermitent errors but if I install the scripts manually there are no problems. Fantastico is great for test driving new software but I recommend deleting whatever it is and reinstalling manually ... but that's just my advice from my experience.

can say we are on the same track here.
i mostly install script by manually uploading it, and setup from browser directly

How do you install manually? I'm having issues too.

guys, when i just want to test something out quickly, fantastico is great. i wanted to install gallery because i have it installed elsewhere. i thought i'd create a duplicate version here and redirect my traffic for a few hours while i upgrade and make changes on my current account elsewhere. i am using gallery for maybe 3 - 4 hours.

i install things manually all of the time -- for example, i have to install mediawiki by hand here b/c it's not an option with fantastico. i also install things with fantastico all of the time. i have never had problems either way. but, the problems i had last night were not because of fantastico. one Gallery install that i was going to use at first was one that i installed with fantastico a few weeks ago. it worked fine when i used it previously. i had merely logged in previously and not modified anything. last night for a spell, it didn't work -- this was strange. so i quickly created another install. same error. the other site i mentioned above was getting the same error . . . and they all cleared up instantly at the same time.

i will continue to use fantastico just for fiddling things, but my wordpress blog has been installed with fantastico for nearly two years and i use fantastico to update it when updates are available. i've had zero problems in 2 years. i can assure you that i'd probably have problems if i was doing the upgrades by hand as we've had some significant upgrades in the last few years. the reason i don't trust my Gallery install on another host is because i installed it manually and now i am upgrading it. for folks like me who know enough to get into trouble, Fantastico is terrific. for folks who know even less than me, Fantastico is even more terrific. for guys who live and breath MySQL, Fantastico sux, no doubt.
