    Default mp3 hosting

    Hi,

    I am a radio artist & downtempo music producer from Turkey.
    I go by the name Fuz Hyperblue and so, I plan to work with Bluehost
    ( groovy isnt it )

    I am going to host my radio shows, as well as my own productions, and going to make them available to download.

    My radio already pays yearly fee's to several recording assosications, so I have no copyright problem for tracks on my radio shows.

    My question is, does Bluehost have any oppositions to such kind of mp3 hosting?

    Thank you in advance

    Yours Sincerely,
    Fuz Hyperblue

    Bluehost doesn't allow copyrighted material to be stored on its servers (unless you actually own the copyright, of course). They can't rely on your assurances that you have paid the appropriate fees, and I don't think they have enough staff to carve out exceptions to their rules, and police the accounts.

    The way that you've described your case I believe you won't have a problem if you are the content owner. Problems will arise though if you have huge demand for your mp3s and your site receives many concurrent downloads.

    thank you all for your replies

    @charlesgan
    I opened a ticket, thanks. bluehost replied: That does seem fine and most of this should not be a problem. You may though need to talk with our abuse department and find out the laws we are under for music sharing.

    @Early Out
    I may obtain legal documents if I'm asked for. My current hosting company never asked for it though...

    @hofmax
    I own my composings of course, but for radioshows, my radio pays legal fees. I dont think there will be any huge demand.

    ps: my current hosting is canaca.com, my current website is thehyperblue.com

    That's what I meant about BH not having the staff to police it. They won't ask for legal documents. They'll just delete the files, and suspend your account.

    But if I spoke to the abuse & tech departments like I did earlier and make myself clear, they are going to be aware of what I'm going to host and come to an understanding, not to delete anything without having some idea about what those files are...?

    or they dont have the time to evaluate hosted files you say?

    It's worth a try, but with 300,000 domains in a shared environment, they might just decide that the $7 a month they get from you isn't worth the effort. But heck, there's no harm in asking them - the worst that can happen is that they can say "no!"

    You could also sign up, load up your stuff, and see what happens. If the volume is low, it might just disappear under the radar, and no harm is done. If there's a problem with it, you can get a prorated refund on the hosting fees, and find another home. Just make sure you keep local copies of your files - storage is cheap, but data recovery isn't!
